REGULAR TESTING TO BEAT BREAST CANCER
BreastScreen NSW staff, McGrath Breast Care Nurses, and volunteers celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month at St George Hospital with an awareness stall, and encouraging women to 'Be A Friend, Tell A Friend' about the importance of regular mammograms in early detection of breast cancer.
The response to the stall was very positive with several people also booking their mammogram with BreastScreen while they were visiting.

Fantastic Day. Breast Cancer Awareness at St George Hospital Kogarah

Fantastic day yesterday at the Breast Cancer Awareness stall at St George Public Hospital Kogarah .
Some ladies from Sutherland Shire Breast Cancer Support Group, in two shifts, enjoyed sharing their breast cancer stories with the passing staff and public to encourage others to be more proactive in their breast health.
Our education breast form that has lumps is alwasy a great discussion starter.
We loved being able to support our breast care nurses by colaborating for this event they organised the date and time, we organised the volunteers and 'stuff'.
Lots of interactions with staff and the public in the main Grey St foyer.
Five people even went and booked a mammogram on the spot with Breast Screen .?
Many women took the opportunity with Breast Screen there , with thier laptop, to look it up when they were next due, to make sure they didn't miss an opportunity for screening.
Someone mentioned hadn't had a mammogram for 20 years because it hurt so much - so the ladies took opportunity to reassure her it was really important to try again.

We raised $161, but more importantly we raised awareness and encouraged people to be more breast aware.
Sutherland hospital will be having a breast cancer awareness display on 16th October thanks to McGrath BCN Kim.

Pink is the colour of care, hope, bc community,empathy and connection. United in pink.

We're fundraising to ensure that no one goes through breast cancer without the care of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse.

A breast cancer diagnosis can change your life in an instant and the impact can be felt right through your family, friends, and community.

McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals and their families affected by breast cancer by providing invaluable physical, psychological, and emotional support from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment.

Event Details

On Wed 9th October , we will have a table display in the Grey Street foyer entrance of St George public hospital Kogarah for breast cancer awareness . Volunteers from our support group and breast care nurses will be rotating from 10am -2pm to wo man the table and interact with the public and staff passing by . We have a educational breast form which has lumps for people to feel while they have a discussion with volunteers. As well as various brochures and a Know You Lemons poster. Breast Screen NSW will also have a table next to us. We will display the McGrath event qr code incase anyone wants to give a donation. We are very lucky to have three McGrath Breast Care Nurses across St George public and Sutherland hospital, and we love collaborating with them to provide this public awareness stall for October.
