Cancer... See you never!

Rocking the pink tutus

Back in June this year and just before we moved to Adelaide, Matilda, my friend Penny and me did the COUCH charity 5k fun as part of the Ironmanโ€ฆ I didnโ€™t know if I was going to be able to finish the run. It was hard, but I did it!
Everything hurt for a week after that walk, but it was worth it!
Iโ€™m getting stronger every day. I still struggle from time to time with the long side effects of the cancer treatment, but Iโ€™m thriving in life, making every day count. This time last year, I was having chemotherapy, which took over my life. This time around, I get to decide what I do, and I have decided to walk 6 km at the Adelaide City to Bay fun run; and I want to take the chance to fundraise for a charity that is very close to my heart.
No one should go through breast cancer without the care of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse, and I want to ensure that is the case. So, help me fundraise for the McGrath Foundation, and together we can make pink the colour of care. Soโ€ฆ

Help me make pink the colour of care

Last year breast cancer attempted to have a say in my lifeโ€ฆ but I did not let it! Yes, it took ten months to get rid of it, multiple visits to the hospital and countless procedures and needles, but I am still here. I still struggle from time to time with the long side effects of the treatment, but Iโ€™m getting stronger and thriving in life, making every day count.

This time last year, I was having chemotherapy, which took over my life for over five months, not giving me much of choice on what I could and could not do with my life and body. This time around, I get to decide what I do, and I have decided to walk 6 km at the Adelaide City to Bay fun run; and I want to take the chance to fundraise for a charity that is very close to my heart.

When I was diagnosed, Kate, my breast cancer nurse, became my cancer personal assistant. Kate was that friend that I would have preferred not to have, but I feel so blessed that she came into my life and was there for me.

She was the first person to call me after discovering I had cancer. We had a long conversation about what was about to happen. I remember that phone call as if it was yesterday. She was the first person to name my cancer โ€œTriple Negative Brest Cancerโ€. She never sugar-coated the information to make me feel better, but she provided me with all the tools and resources I needed to prepare myself, Matilda and Sam for what was coming our way.

Kateโ€™s support was ongoing during my entire treatment, and I always knew she was just a call or text message away. She was there for me for the good, the bad, the ugly and the unknown. Kate never made me feel like I was taking too much of her time, even when she was busy helping so many other breast cancer patients.

She is still there for meโ€ฆ checking how I am going, making sure I am keeping the anxiety of recurrence in check, making sure I am ok.

No one should go through breast cancer without the care of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse, and I want to ensure that is the case. So, help me fundraise for the McGrath Foundation, and together we can make pink the colour of care.

McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals and their families affected by breast cancer by providing invaluable physical, psychological, and emotional support from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment.

Supporting me to raise funds for this great cause is easy, and you can help the McGrath Foundation reach its goal of 250 nurses by 2025 to work towards ensuring no one misses out on care.

Thank you so much for your love and support!
